Falling for New England

Eight people. Six new states. Two cars. One amazing weekend.

It all started with dinner in Delaware on Friday, October 10.

The New York City skyline twinkled as we drove past on the freeway.

The next morning we woke up and looked out to Springfield, Massachusetts.

A cute quote I found at Queeche Gorge, Vermont before being swept off my feet by the gorgeous scenery and colors.

The fun group I was with.

Cute bridge I stood on later to get a stunning photo.

On the path going to the bottom of the gorge.

Me at the bottom of the gorge.

Picture from on top of that cute bridge looking down in the gorge.

The next stop on our tour, and one of my favorites, was just as the sign says... the birthplace of Joseph Smith in Sharon, Vermont.

Here is where the LDS church believes the foundation of Joseph's family home was when he was born.

Here is the actual doorstep and one of the only two original stones left from the home.
The other was the hearth stone. (I didn't get a picture of that,)

The beautiful monument that is dedicated to Joseph Smith's birth place. The flowers were immaculately placed and in bloom like the church does so well.

We drove through the White Mountains on our way to Augusta, Maine where we stayed on Saturday, October 11.

After attending Sacrament meeting in a cute town called Winthrop, we drove to Cape Elizabeth just south of Portland, Maine.

First look at the most photographed light house!

The quintessential picture in front of the most photographed light house.

Gorgeous contrast of fall colors.

A sail boat and a light house?! It couldn't have gotten any better.

Check out this cool mansion by the coast that is falling apart. (We all thought it was an abandoned fort.)

After Cape Elizabeth, we drove back to Portland and jumped on a ferry to Peak's Island after lunch.

Look! That's where we were going!

Ahhhhh! Docking at Peak's Island! So excited to look at this cute island.

I didn't take any pictures on the island, but on of the other girls did.
(Photo courtesy of Ashley Depew (her camera) and Harrison (he took the picture.))
This accurately depicts the excitement we felt to be there and showed the cute style of houses that lined the coast of the island.

The ferry I'm on is a twin!

After we got off, we drove a couple hours down to a town about an hour south of Boston for the night.

In the morning, we all drove to Plymouth to see THE rock. This is the beach at Plymouth.

The Mayflower... it is actually a cool looking ship.

Pics or it didn't happen.... right?

There it is! THE rock! The very one the pilgrims stepped on to settle America.

Yup, THE rock is in the bottom of that monument.

A grave containing the bones from those who died that first year at Plymouth.

They spell Plymouth with an "I". Have we been spelling it wrong our whole lives?

If I had all day, I would have gone into the plantation to see what life was like and toured the Mayflower to get an idea of how small it really was.

The next place, and last place on our trip to New England was Providence, Rhode Island.
This was a beautiful mural on the side of the building in the financial district.

We passed a beautiful memorial for those who were in the Korean War.

How cute would it be to go down this canal at night with fires lit down the middle on a gondola?

Then we satisfied the nerd in me and we walked through the heart of Brown Universities campus.

The front gate!

What a beautiful quad! Some of the architecture reminded me of the architecture at Utah State University.

Look how beautiful their crest is!

We passed some modern art on the way to eat lunch. It looked like this statue was made out of tinfoil.

East Side Pockets is rated the top eatery in Providence. Their flafels and gyros were to die for and it was all for a decent price. I couldn't get over how cute the atmosphere was around Brown. This place definitely contributed.

We drove the 7 and a half hours home from here satisfied, eyes full and mind saturated with new memories.

I have definitely fallen for New England.
